California Coast - Plein Air

I spend a large percentage of my time painting in the outdoors, plein air style. My works are completed alla prima - all at once - in order to keep the freshness and spontaneity of the work alive and well. The challenges of plein air painting are fairly great requiring stamina, a keen understanding of the elements of design, mastery of medium, and tenacity. For me as an artist, the experience of spending a day outdoors absorbing, reflecting and studying my subject is extremely rewarding and enriching. Each completed piece inspires me to the next.
